Elysium is committed to enhancing sustainability across its services and is extremely proud to announce it is the first independent healthcare provider in the UK to enrol colleagues into the LDN Sustainable Healthcare Academy which represents LDN Apprenticeships’ bespoke delivery of the Level 4 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner apprenticeship. To mark National Apprenticeship Week we found out more about this exciting programme from Elysium’s Andy Wadley.

“Sustainability is a key focus for Elysium. As part of Ramsay Health Care and as an organisation we have pledged to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
“There’s a number of measures taken every day to help us collectively meet that target and across the organisation we have many very dedicated and enthusiastic colleagues for whom sustainability is a true passion.
“Working alongside LDN Apprenticeships, we’re thrilled that to help people professionally develop in the area of sustainability, specifically in healthcare, we are enrolling colleagues in the Level 4 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner Apprenticeship – the first independent healthcare provider in the UK to do so.
“We currently have five people already enrolled with a further colleagues joining the cohort over the coming weeks and months.
“These people are at the vanguard of embedding and enhancing sustainability in their services but more widely too, across their region or within the business support functions of the organisation. In the coming months we hope to have around 12 people enrolled, covering the wide geography of our services.
“As well as offering professional development opportunities for those taking part, this healthcare specific apprenticeship scheme will help us embed sustainable practices and projects at a local level. As part of their apprenticeships, those taking part will develop projects aimed at enhancing sustainability and which can feasibly be rolled out across the organisation, they will share best practice among services and create regional Sustainability Groups to encourage others to embrace sustainable ideas and practices throughout Elysium’s services.”
“The content of the programme is mainly delivered digitally, using a blend of expert-led teaching and learning, which is combined with the opportunity to put the knowledge, skills and behaviours acquired into practice.
“Those taking part can access on-demand learning content, live sessions and masterclasses which have been tailored specifically for the healthcare sector. Each participant is also supported by a dedicated Skills Coach from the healthcare industry who supports them to align their daily work with the programme, and to produce a series of ‘on the job projects’.
“Learners enjoy the flexibility to access their learning content at times that suit their work schedules, through an online delivery model complemented by two in-person development days. Spanning 20 months in total, the programme includes a 15-month practical learning period. Each week, participants in the Academy dedicate approximately 6 hours to gaining valuable knowledge, skills, and behaviours that they can actively put in practice in their day-to-day job. This enables them to make a meaningful contribution towards achieving their organisation’s sustainability goals.
“The need for flexibility in healthcare, particularly for those who are based at a service, is essential. The programme allows for that, as well as the blend of learning and then putting that learning into practice for the benefit of the service, the people supported by the service, colleagues and wider society.
“The apprenticeship is enabling us to have sustainability champions creating change and impact across the organisation and driving sustainability throughout Elysium.”
Simon Baker, Enterprise Solutions Director at LDN Apprenticeships, said: “We are thrilled to support Elysium colleagues as they develop their expertise in sustainability, becoming champions of change within their organisation.
“The LDN Sustainable Healthcare Academy has been carefully designed to meet the unique needs of the healthcare sector, combining flexible online learning with practical, on-the-job projects that create real impact.
By embedding sustainable practices at a local level and sharing best practices across services, Elysium participants are not only contributing to their organisation’s sustainability goals but also helping to shape a more sustainable future for the healthcare industry as a whole.”
