Welcome to

The Farndon Unit

The Farndon Unit is a purpose-built hospital which provides services across low secure, Level 2 rehabilitation and acute inpatient settings for women with identified mental health needs or a Personality Disorder (PD) diagnosis.

More information about The Farndon Unit

At the Farndon Unit, the combination of low secure wards and a Level 2 rehabilitation ward area provide a seamless internal care pathway that supports and empowers patients in their recovery and rehabilitation before discharge. The on-site facilities include large and attractive en-suite bedrooms, disabled facilities, a secure courtyard and garden, and a patient café, gym, salon and activity hall.

We have celebrated successes with complex patients by training all staff and implementing the Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) model. We actively promote patient involvement and ensure that they are at the heart of everything we do. All interventions delivered at The Farndon Unit are underpinned by a compassion-based approach by all staff.

Low Secure Unit: The Bolero Ward and Cortland Ward offer personalised assessment and recovery-based treatment pathways, including a trauma-specific pathway, for women with complex care needs.

Level 2 Rehabilitation: The Aster Ward offers a psychology-led, trauma-informed rehabilitation service for women with mental health problems, complex needs and those who have been diagnosed with a Personality Disorder (PD).

Acute Service: The Ruby Frost Ward and Darcy Ward provide an acute inpatient service for women 18 years and over. The service aims to provide a stabilising environment, working with individuals in periods of crisis and acute phases of their mental illness in the least restrictive way.

The acute inpatient service accepts referrals and admits from all areas, including A&E, section 136 suites and other acute services.
